How to read this novel

This is not like your usual novel. You can read it any way you want, in whatever order you want.

If you like backstory, you can hang out in the past for a while. If you want to know how it concludes, start at the end. If you prefer to start at the chronological beginning and move in a straight line to the chronological end, you can do that, too.

A few quick tips.

The main entrance to the story is the latest entry in the novel, in December of 1998. It’s a good place to access a number of different storylines. Don’t worry about trying to hit every thread–chances are you will find them all in your own way. Though if you want a sense of who we’re talking about when we say Jackson Calvert, you can go straight to the convertible in the desert.

If you’re not sure where to go next, you can always go forwards or backwards in time–there are buttons in either direction at the top of your page. We also encourage experimental navigation (whatever that means for you).

If a new window pops up, you might decide to close it after reading that page. These are not quite dead ends but you may still choose a u-turn.

You can try searching for a term that interests you. The word “komodo” interests us.

If you have something to say about something you read, you can leave a comment.

When you decide to leave, you might bookmark your page so you can pick up where you left off when you get back. Or you can wander back in next time via a different route.
